Woodford 2011/12
Dust. Heat. Hippies. That’s right, I’m talking about the Woodford Folk Festival. For those who don’t know, Woodford is a week-long festival of music and sustainable lifestyle set at; well, Woodford. I went as a volunteer Stage Manager, my first Woodford, and let me tell you – it was fantastic. My venue was called the Mystery Bus. Shifts were shared between me and Dani, a lovely gal of Germanic descent. I’m not sure that any description of the Mystery Bus experience could be quite adequate in capturing its absurd essence, but let me try. Firebooks and Fall
Time just flies, doesn’t it? Nearly October. Again. Incredible! I’ve been somewhat lazy about updating the website and posting. I justify it by saying I have song to write, music to practise, and rehearsals to attend! Opening night for The Book Into the Fire (the play I’m currently in) is next Friday. It’s a new work by Errol R J Morrison, revolving around a cane-farming family at the time of the Moreton sugar mill closure in 2003. I play Lorenzo, the Italian boyfriend, who is meeting the family for the first time. If you’re in the area, it’s worth checking out. The First Release
What an interesting week it’s been. I’m currently teaching a class of 9 boys from Ritsumeiken Junior High School, here for 2 weeks as part of their English education. They’re a boisterous and sometimes rowdy bunch, which is great – the students that feel more confident to participate are always the ones who get the biggest benefit from the experience. A group of only boys is a good dynamic, too – they’re a bit more relaxed about trying and failing, and also competing to see who can eat the most amount of vegemite on a piece of damper.
